The original 'Chefs Mate' 5.3" from Alexander Handmade Mills is a well proportioned and heavy pepper grinder made of solid brass. The spices are added through the opening in the side, so you do not have to disassemble the grinder to fill it up. The opening hatch is manufactured with a tight fit, and opens easily using a tool such as a knife or a spoon. 'Chefs Mate' in Chrome are handmade of solid brass which is subsequently chrome-plated. 'Chefs Mate' are intended only for peppers and other dried spices — not salt. The 3-part grinding mechanism first guides the spice down into the mechanism, after which it is coarsely ground and finally completely finely ground.
